For reference, my rapid rating on Chess.com is 1148, so I'm in the target audiences for this course -- and it was just what I needed. If you've reached the point where you take care of piece safety (well, most of the time... :/ ) and you know the basic tactics, this course should be your next step. Over the course of 30 games you see how plans come out of the opening and flow into the middlegame. You also get many examples of the importance of King safety and how to take advantage of your opponents neglecting His Majesty. You also receive a complete PGN file with the game scores and notes, giving you a lot of material for future study. Highly recommeded.

Good explanation
Love the breakdown explaination for the intermediate level which was helpful and it also serves as a reminder to play chess.

Excellent Course
This course was excellent! I thought that Matt consistently provided just the right amount of commentary: clear takeaways throughout each game, with discussion of some alternative variations without getting too far into the weeds of moves that could have been played but weren't.
As a side note, I find Matt's voice very pleasant and comforting. Perhaps he can brand his courses as "the ASMR of Chess"? [only half-kidding]
My one criticism of this course is that I felt it never quite rose above the strong-beginner level, even though it's titled and marketed as a path to intermediate level. I was expecting more games where at least one of the players was rated 1400 or higher. Nevertheless, the level of instruction was just about right for me, rated USCF 1225, around 1650 Lichess Classical. A welcome add-on would be some commentary from Matt highlighting specific skills that he would classify as intermediate-level, reinforcing the notion that this course is intended to help the student "Climb to Intermediate."
All around, excellent course! Highly recommended.
We know you'll love this course as much as we do
If you aren't satisfied with the course in the first 30 days, we will issue a full refund.
