    Fantastic Course

As a 2100 player, I need something more than just general ideas and plans, but something less than ridiculous numbers of lines. I already play d4, but I am sure that having an actual set repertoire analyzed by masters will improve my opening (the weakest part of my game) by quite a bit.

    Great Course!

I have spent so much time struggling to figure out what to play and these courses took all that worry and stress away from me. And unlike so many other courses, this one covers lines that people at my club actually play instead of only the stuff GMs play which has been a huge help!

    Great opening lines and plans!

This was my first course from ChessGoals and I was surprised with the approach they took at first - taking less popular lines and showing you the best plans. Way less memorization than I expected of opening courses, yet I usually end up better in the opening, and often outplay my opponent in the resulting middlegame using the plans taught (especially in the h3 King's Indian Defense). Playing this course's lines have given me a really solid 55-65% win-rate with d4 so far. Definitely a 5/5 from me.

    Great course!

This course, plus the Caro-Kann and Dynamic Slav, rounds out my repertoire. Well researched and practical. Well done!

    Really practical course

I really enjoyed this course, and believe it has the perfect balance between objectivity and practicality. Most of the lines are fairly rare and unique recommendations, (The Bg5 idea in the Slav, or the h3 system vs the KID for example). These options might not be the most common, but they are always fine for white according to the engine, and therefore offer the benefit of being surprising for the opponent. Overall, this course is built to be practical. Not memorizing the most common/mainline theory 20 moves deep, but quickly deviating into territory we will be familiar with while maintaining a position that is engine checked too!

    A Complete d4 Repertoire

Matt makes building a repertoire easy. He lays out in order what you are likely to face against opponents. This allows you to start studying from the top down and quickly use the material as the most popular lines are covered first. Matt also goes for slightly offbeat lines which can catch your opponents off guard, and he leaves you with a plan so you can play past the opening moves. No need to worry about memorizing 1000s of lines, Matt condenses d4 into a handful of line with similar moves and plans. This course is probably the best d4 course out there and it includes hours of videos... at this price it's a steal. If you are looking to have a complete d4 repertoire or looking for alternatives to what you currently play this course is for you!

Hidden gem! A great introduction to d4.

This course is a great choice for anyone looking to switch from 1.e4 to 1.d4, or for someone who wants to switch from the London system to mainline d4 openings. I needed a repertoire that was sound but without lots of memorization and deep lines, and this is it. Matt and Jesse explain the plans and ideas very well (which helps in games when you do go out of book, you know what to aim for) but they also explain the most popular lines (the ones you will face in your game) instead of overburdening you with stuff that you may never see. When swapping to 1.d4 I was quite worried about being overwhelmed by the amount of theory and depth, but this course gave me the confidence to play 1.d4. I’ve been using this course for around a year now and very happy with the results.
